Supplements for sleep and stress
Understand the different ingredients in a sleep-and-stress routine before deciding whether a combination is useful.

What it does
Stress and sleep difficulties can affect each other. Products in this category may contain melatonin, herbs or probiotics. Each ingredient has a different purpose and evidence base; they are not interchangeable.
When it may help
A particular ingredient may fit a specific concern. Melatonin relates to sleep timing. Some ashwagandha preparations have shown possible short-term benefits for stress or sleep, but the findings do not apply equally to every preparation.
What to keep in mind
Taking several calming products does not establish a better result and can increase drowsiness. A tea or bedtime ritual may feel pleasant without being proven to treat insomnia.
How this relates to energy
Better sleep or more effective stress care may help related tiredness. That is a reason to address those problems, not proof that a supplement bundle will restore energy.
Persistent exhaustion, anxiety or difficulty sleeping needs attention to its cause. A cosmetic skin product has no role in treating fatigue or a sleep disorder.

What to look for
One clear goal
Decide which problem you are addressing before starting several products at once.
Overlapping effects
Look for duplicate melatonin and combinations that may make you drowsy.
Separate directions
A bundle can contain teas, capsules, gummies and skin products. Read each label and use each only as intended.
Independent quality testing
Look for independent quality testing, such as NSF or USP verification. It checks aspects of product quality, not whether you will benefit.
What to know about ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is an herb studied for stress and sleep. Long-term safety is not well established. It can affect thyroid function and has been linked to rare liver injury, so it needs more consideration than its plant origin might suggest.
Before taking it
Avoid ashwagandha during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask first with thyroid or autoimmune conditions, liver disease, upcoming surgery or prescription medicines.
Avoid alcohol and driving after products that cause drowsiness. A pharmacist can review combinations with sleep medicines.
Chamomile may trigger reactions in people allergic to related plants such as ragweed.
